Generally speaking, books that I rate as 9/10 or 10/10 are great. If you click on the category link for book reviews in the blog post, you'll see a list of the book reviews I've done so far. There are some 9s and 10s in there, so that might give you an idea of what I consider to be great books.

Is there a "great" social media book? That's a good question. Strictly speaking I've only read three books that fall into the category of social media. Well, wait, four actually, if you count The New Influencers by Paul Gillin. There's something about that book that ranks a bit higher in my mind, but that's partially because it was a "gateway" book for me that introduced me to a lot of these ideas and concepts, though Brogan and Smith make a much needed focus on the human side of business.

Is there a "great" book on social media, then? I'm not sure. There are still a few others that I'd like to read first.

Hi Sarge. I didn't want to make too big of a deal about the errors that I found because it's not that uncommon (unfortunately) these days, but they did surprise me a bit and make me scratch my head. Maybe I have a second printing or something.

The Game part of the book was the part that resonated most for me, partially because I used to play a lot of computer games and the jargon is familiar, plus it also appeals to me.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for the review. I was considering getting the book. I think I still will, but I'm curious what books you think are "GREAT," I'd like to read those. What social media books do you think are GREAT (for you).

Hey there Mark :)

I am halfway through the book at the moment and I was blown away by the 'make your own game'. I've always told other people that they should treat life like a game, make it fun. People would look at me stupid and say, life isn't a game, it's serious.

My main purpose in life is to have fun, why would you want it any other way? I know the book was surrounded by the business side of things and making them 'games' but it really stroke a chord with me. Especially with my latest actions in life - I recently quit a perfectly good 9-5 job that I really enjoyed to pursue an online career and work for myself - this is my 'game'.

Haven't come across any obvious spelling mistakes yet but I do agree with you that the chapter names were quite misleading and a bit 'off'. They make sense now I'm reading the book but at first I'm like.. wha?

I don't know what it is about physical books but they always take me longer to read than reading off the net.

Good review!

Sarge | BeginnerBlogger.com

Very analytical approach to books reviews. I found this insightful and useful. Thank you! Also, love the rationale behind your affiliate links. I think it's perfect.
