I’ve been writing a lot about things like self esteem, self actualization, and creative infrastructure, which are things that focus on content creation. Today, I’m curious about something else.
What content do you read for pleasure? Assuming that you have the time…
Do you read non-fiction (business, current affairs, productivity, self-help, hobbies, etc.)?
Do you read fiction (general, western, historical, fantasy, science fiction, etc.)?
I’m particularly interested in hearing about what social media enthusiasts (pro or amateur) are consuming.
In my case, I’m reading a lot of business, self-development, and productivity stuff, but I continue to enjoy fantasy and science fiction. I keep up on what’s happening in the mainstream comic book world even though I don’t actually buy many comics these days (if at all).
Please share your thoughts in the comments section!

I love my job and tend to read things that support it for pleasure. In the summer I read non-fiction. My list grows in Shelfari.

Offline or online reading?
Offline, I read a lot of fiction from a number of genres – fantasy, thriller, aga sagas, literary fiction, historical fiction. Online, though, I'm equally eclectic, but read no fiction at all – mostly blogs on writing, wordpress, coding, design, productivity …
And I remain unconvinced by Kindle etc. Could you safely and comfortably read with that in the bath? While cooking? While sorting the washing? Brushing your teeth? Under the covers? Books go everywhere with me, but I don't think an e-reader could. Views?
I have a Pocket PC on my belt and usually loaded with 5 to 10 e-books, usually fiction. Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Dana Stabenow, PC Woodhouse, etc. etc. Big fan of storytelling and legal thrillers. I did a lot of reading done in debt moments and before going to sleep.
The amount of books that I want to read in the amount of topics that interest me is much much larger. But I limit myself on purpose.
The next nonfiction books that I will go and get are probably from Covey and maybe, maybe the latest from David Allen.
Just finished up Angels and Demons. Good read. I really like the book application on Facebook. It allows me to see what my friends are reading and pic books based on their recommendations and reviews.
That's a cool scenario!
I don't have an e-reader of any kind (I don't count my laptop PC), although it's pretty obvious where I read blogs.
Good point about fiction – I wonder how much e-reader consumption is non-fiction vs. fiction.
Re: ct. to Lucy Nixon above – do fictional e-books feel much different that the paper kind while reading?
There's also Goodreads, which is a separate Website which does something similar to what you describe on Facebook.
I actually read blogs for pleasure, including this one. Yes I know I am a geek. Thanks.
Yes, yes, yes and yes. For pleasure I read fiction, non-fiction, blogs, The Economist, comics and manga. Also the occasional “art of engineering” book and art books. For work I mostly read technical documentation, but that is often also pleasant (yes, really). I keep a list of the books I finish on my site: http://anaulin.org/wordpress/booklog/
Hi Mark,
Content is the king and if there is any way to get your user back to your blog – that is it. Thought I will share with you my blogpost that I wrote on content. Do share your comments and feedback on it

At times i read books on productivity as well, but i usually tend to read articles on productivity on the blogosphere.
Everyone, thanks for the ongoing responses!
