Howard, is it really social media teaching morality or is it just a way for people to get in contact with different kinds of people.

I do see various charitable causes, etc. on various social platforms. Is it learning morality or is it just social contagion?

Interesting thought, though.

I disagree that Social Media can't teach morality. Look at the 4813 members of the "Genocide Intervention Network" on Facebook. The 4616 members of the Save Darfur cause. Causes has 12,298,605 monthly active users.
Are these people not somehow learning, expanding and improving a code of conduct put forward by a society? Students, so-called Millenials and slackers who don't care but for themselves and their own iPods are getting out in record numbers to learn about their world, to vote, and to make a difference, and Social Media is a conduit for this behavior.

Much of this is documented in the forthcoming book by Tom Watson, _CauseWired_ http://www.causewired.com/
Highly recommended.
