Blogging is too personal for comments to truly die. For the large networkers like Scoble yes they may disappear but for the great mass of bloggers they won't. Comments are the best way to engage in conversation with the blogger and the bloggers other readers. Freindfeed is great of consolidation of your stuff, but it won't take over your blog entirely.
