simply go on to what's next ... the people who just joined have arrived when it is right for them, merely continue, ignore the repetition concept, it is the wrong question

Interesting discussion. I've actually been turned off blogs because of the repetition factor. But the fact is most of us operate in niche areas, so repitition will eventually occur whether we like it or not.

@Lid - want to see something funny? Blogtreprenoeur (?) regularly scrapes from my blog, so I put a little paragraph at the beginning of a post, which was scraped and published in its entirety!

@Heidi - actually, you might want to try the Popular Posts page to help get caught up :)

Interesting post Mark

Lately I've realized the importance of repetition, especially when reading older blog posts: Man, what was I thinking? They need tweaking, or updating, or just plain rewriting. :)

Also, I've started to link to previous articles more than I have ever done in the past. Not long ago, I noticed a lot of my stuff is being ripped and Tad suggested it as a way to show authorship. I like the idea.

@Alexander - I think I understand your blog a bit better now - it's a form of continual clarification. ;)

@Jamie - I think your blog is misnamed, it should be "How To Write." :)

Repetition is the first lesson they teach you at Serial Novelist School.

The most successful repetition artists draw readers back to Book 1 by making sure that Book 8 reads as a stand-alone but also creates enough intrigue to go back to the beginning.

You never know where the reader is going to join the story so you need to balance the history of the characters against the current plot.

Which is why repetition is so important and the first thing they teach you at Serial Novelist School. :)

@Colin agree. I find repetition more often to be something that helps me formulate the thing I'm trying to say more effectively. And in many cases I get different feedback each time. As long as the message you try to get across gets enriched each time repetition can be quite helpful. If you find yourself saying the same thing over and over again and feel that you have done that too many times already then it becomes time to move on ;-)
