I've found that the posts that make their points best are those that are good at drawing relevant analogies from other places, like this one. YES, it's important to maximize your time, but it's also important to give yourself room for inspiration. Also, diversifying makes you a better participant in the online community :).

@Guilherme - yes, those are all good points. I'm also trying to suggest that looking outside one's own niche may provide some new ideas that you can apply within your own blog.

Very true. You can't be narrow in your writing and even less on your reading. Not only in fiction, but also in science, art and everything else, the ability to transcend comes from the possibility to see farther.

And what easier way to look farther than to look into your neighbors backyard instead to dig your own until you find petroleum (which doesn't happens in most cases by the way).

That said, this doesn't mean you have to write all your different stuff into the same blog or book. Keeping a blog focused is a great thing because your public might not be interested in all the same things as you.

Guest posting and multiple single- or multi-author blogs are great tools to let creative fluids flow in many areas while keeping blogs focused.
